Deadly Blow to Hezbollah: Israel Claims Victory in Taking Down Top Leader Ibrahim al-Qubaisi
Israeli Army Kills Hezbollah Commander in Beirut Operation
The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it had killed Ibrahim al-Qubaisi, the commander of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile systems, in an operation on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
“Warplanes under the direction of the military intelligence authorities struck the southern suburbs of Beirut and eliminated Ibrahim Muhammad al-Qubaisi, the commander of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile systems,” the army added in a statement.
Al-Qubaisi was responsible for Hezbollah’s various missile units, particularly the precision-guided missile unit and the missile launch program towards the home front in Israel during the war. He had specialized and central experience in the field of missiles and was close to senior leaders of Hezbollah’s military leadership.
As of 16:30 (UTG), there was no immediate comment from Hezbollah on the Israeli military statement.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry Reports Casualties
Lebanon’s health ministry said in a statement, “The initial toll of today’s Israeli attack in Ghobeiri, a southern suburb of Beirut, is 6 martyrs and 15 wounded.”
This is the third Israeli raid on buildings in the southern suburbs of Beirut in 5 days, killing 55 people, including 7 children, and wounding 66 others.
Escalating Conflict in Lebanon
Since Monday morning, the Israeli army has launched the “most violent and extensive” offensive in Lebanon since the conflict with Hezbollah began nearly a year ago, killing 558 people, including 50 children and 94 women, and wounding 1,835, according to the latest information from the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
Lebanese and Palestinian groups in Lebanon, particularly Hezbollah, have been carrying out daily bombing raids with the Israeli army across the divided “Blue Line”. This has resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries, most of them on the Lebanese side.
The groups are demanding an end to the American-backed war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip since October 7, which has left more than 137,000 Palestinians dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing.
