Public Ministry officials heard about the atrocities committed by illegal groups, who turned the school into a center of their operations.
as clear breach of International Humanitarian Law, The Attorney General’s Office described the placement of anti-personnel mines in the surroundings of the Miguel Zapata school, in the Plateado area, in the municipality of Argelia, Cauca, which affects more than 1,400 boys, girls and young people who cannot access the right to education .
During the visit of a special commission from the Public Ministry to this town in the town of El Plateado, municipality of Argelia (Cauca), he learned about the atrocities committed by illegal groups when planting explosive devices and the risks they represent to the lives of children and young people.
“Illegal groups ignore the principle of difference, respect for protected property and the use of methods prohibited by International Humanitarian Law,” José Luis Martínez, spokesman for the management entity, said, adding that he transformed the criminal structures of the school “in its operations center.”
Likewise, Martínez emphasized that 122 of these explosives have been neutralized by the Military Forces, since the start of the Perseus military campaign.
During the visit to this area, the special team of the Attorney General’s Office learned about at least 10 murders that have occurred in recent weeks and the fear and panic they have created among residents the revenge of these structures against the public forces, which so far this year have carried out the 42 percent of their attacks against the civilian population.

That is why the spokesperson of the Attorney General’s Office called the attention of the national government to adopt measures that provide security and guarantee “the rights to the education of the more than 1,400 children affected by this situation.”
