Romania Floods: 4 Dead, Hundreds Stranded as Heavy Rain Continues
Romania floods - According to a September 15th report by AP, at least four people were found dead in the eastern region of Romania after a storm of heavy rain continued on Saturday, September 14. The victims included three elderly women and one man.
Authorities sent Black Hawk helicopters to support rescue workers who rushed to help hundreds of people in Calats and Vaslui counties.
Local media reported that more than 5,000 buildings were damaged by the severe flooding. In addition, strong gusts of wind caused trees to fall, resulting in heavy damage to cars and blocking traffic routes.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports that several European countries are preparing to deal with potential flood situations. In Poland, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Tomas Simonyk, stated that there is a difficult situation in areas around four rivers in the south-west region.
The Biala River exceeded the safe level of more than 2 meters, amid fears that the water would flood the towns of Moruf and Kwukowazi.
In the Czech Republic, maximum flood warnings have been issued for 38 areas, including Prague, where flood barriers and sluice gates have been constructed. Austria, which previously faced the hottest August ever, is expecting heavy rain in many regions with water levels of around 100-200 mm.
