According to Lebanese and Hezbollah officials, at least nine people were killed and more than 2,800 injured in the blasts that occurred on September 17.
Among the victims were a 10-year-old girl from the eastern village of Saraain and two Hezbollah members, as reported by Hezbollah-owned Al-Ahed News.
Hezbollah released a statement confirming the incident, stating, “These explosions, the cause of which is still unknown, resulted in the death of a girl and two members of the group, and left a large number of people injured with various injuries.”
Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported that approximately 200 of the injured required surgery, with most suffering from injuries to the face, hands, or abdomen.
Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, who owned one of the pagers, was injured in the blast, according to Iranian state television. Amani later stated that he was “feeling fine and fully conscious” in a phone call after the incident.
Hezbollah is conducting a “security and scientific investigation to determine the cause of the simultaneous explosions.”
The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has advised all hospitals to be on maximum alert and increase their readiness to respond to emergency medical services.
The Ministry also recommends that individuals who own pagers discard them immediately.
The Lebanese Red Cross has deployed over 30 ambulances to assist in treating and evacuating those injured in the explosions, which occurred in the south, Bekaa, and southern suburbs of Beirut.
Lebanon’s Public Health Ministry reported that approximately 100 hospitals received the injured.
