A ferry carrying more than 350 passengers capsized Monday morning in the southern Philippines, leaving at least 15 people dead, according to the archipelago’s coast guard.
As of midday, authorities confirmed 15 fatalities and rescued at least 316 people. Twenty-eight individuals remain missing. The ferry was traveling between Zamboanga City on the island of Mindanao and Jolo Island in Sulu province,a distance of approximately 93 miles.
Coast guard officials are leading the search and rescue operation. Details regarding the cause of the incident are still under inquiry.
