According to reports from TBS News Dig and TV Asahi, emergency services responded to the scene after reports that fire was emerging from a room within the complex. During the response, a husband in his 70s and a wife in her 60s were transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
The Kanagawa Prefectural Police stated that they were unable to establish contact with the husband’s younger brother, a man in his 60s who lived in the same residence.
One body was subsequently recovered from the ruins of the fire. While some initial reports described the gender of the deceased as unknown, TV Asahi reported that the body may be the resident male in his 60s.
