Tragic Death of 25-Year-Old Engineer After Excessive Drinking

A 25-year-old engineer from Hsinchu Science Park, surnamed Zhang, tragically lost his life after excessive drinking at an outdoor bar in Xinyi District. On the evening of the incident, Zhang had consumed approximately 700ml of “Duanhun Baixiang” fruit-flavored vodka.

According to police investigations, Zhang had participated in the “1 Liter of Tears” challenge at the bar, which involved drinking a concoction made from passion fruit, 40% spirit vodka, and 300ml of ice within 8 minutes. The challenge came with a bet of 500 yuan, which would be refunded if the drinker could finish the challenge within the time limit.

After consuming the drink, Zhang went to the basement toilet of the nearby ATT 4 FUN department store, where he was last seen entering the toilet at around 0:00:25. Surveillance footage revealed that dozens of people had entered the toilet during the time Zhang was inside, but he was not seen exiting.

The next morning, at 7:00 a.m., a security guard discovered Zhang’s lifeless body in the toilet, with no signs of foul play or injury. The police are currently investigating the incident and have interviewed the bar manager and owner to clarify the circumstances surrounding Zhang’s death.

The bar, known as the “King of Taipei Sister Drinks,” has since stopped hosting the “1 Liter of Tears” challenge. The incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers of excessive drinking and the importance of prioritizing one’s health and safety.
