Tragedy Strikes Assiut: Microbus Plunges into Canal, Leaving several Dead
Assiut, Egypt – A devastating accident in Assiut Governorate has left several people dead and others injured after a microbus carrying 14 passengers plunged into the Ibrahimi Canal. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in front of a taxi stand in Darut Center, sending shockwaves through the community.Assiut Governor Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr swiftly responded to the tragedy, ordering all relevant agencies to the scene. civil protection and river rescue forces, ambulances, and local units rushed to the site, working tirelessly to rescue survivors and recover victims.
Tragically, one body was recovered from the water and transported to Darut Central Hospital. Four citizens were successfully rescued,while the search for others continues.
“Immediately after the accident, I appointed Mustafa Ali, head of the center and city of Darut, to continuously follow up and provide all aspects of assistance until the research process is completed,” stated Governor Abu Al-Nasr.
Recognizing the immense grief and hardship faced by the victims’ families, the governor has pledged financial support. Families of those who lost their lives will recieve 50,000 Egyptian pounds if the deceased was the head of the household, and 25,000 Egyptian pounds if the deceased was a family member. Those injured in the accident will receive 5,000 Egyptian pounds each.
The governor emphasized the commitment of the Assiut governorate and the Ministry of Social Solidarity to providing extensive humanitarian care during this crisis. He extended his deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims,assuring them of continued support and assistance.
The inquiry into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
