Lung Infection Epidemic at Phu Khiao Prison: Provincial Public Health Bureau Determines Cause of Bacterial Infection
September 23, 2024 – Dr. Wachira Botpibun, Chaiyaphum Provincial Public Health Physician, has addressed the recent outbreak of upper respiratory tract infections at Phu Khiao Prison.
The infections were discovered during an inspection of Phu Khiao Prison, which received prisoners from Chum Phae District, Khon Kaen Province, and Phu Khiao Provincial Court. The prison has a total of over 1,000 inmates.
According to reports, 17 patients are being treated at the Male Medical Building of Phu Khiao Chaloem Phrakiat Hospital, with four more cases in intensive care. Fortunately, treatment results are gradually improving.
In addition to the hospital cases, 21 more people are being treated within Phu Khiao Prison, with 68 others under observation. Authorities have already delivered medication to the prison, and a total of 99 patients have been identified among the inmate population. Furthermore, 78 prison guards were tested for the virus, and no additional infected individuals were found.
