Deadly Pursuit: 30-Year-Old Driver Loses Life in Tragic Crash While Chasing Live Broadcast
Drunk Driving Suspect Dies in Crash After Being Chased by YouTuber
A recent incident has sparked controversy over private sanctions and the role of social media in public safety. A YouTuber, known as Damyang Ori, livestreamed a vehicle chase after a suspected drunk driving suspect, which ended in a fatal crash.
The incident occurred when a 30-year-old driver crossed the center line at a high rate of speed, striking a parked trailer and coming to a stop. The vehicle then caught fire, and the driver, who was seriously injured, was taken to the hospital but later died.
According to eyewitnesses, the YouTuber and others had been chasing the vehicle suspected of drunk driving, broadcasting the scene live on YouTube to around 400 viewers. The chase and crash scene were watched in real-time, with some viewers expressing concern for the driver’s safety.
At the time of the accident, the YouTuber had approached the driver, asking if he was drink-driving, and then told him he would report the matter to the police. The driver denied drink driving and ran away, prompting the YouTubers to chase him. The accident occurred just two minutes into the chase.
Experts have criticized the YouTuber’s actions, suggesting that private sanctions disguised as public interest may have triggered the incident. “If it had ended with a general report, it would not have been possible for the accident to have occurred,” said Professor Kim Jeong-gyu of the Department of Police Administration at Honam University. “This means that society must be careful not to allow private sanctions aimed at economic advantages latent in the intention.”
Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident, including whether the YouTubers involved are connected to the incident.
