Super Typhoon Yagi Wreaks Havoc in Southeast Asia, Death Toll Exceeds 500
As of the 17th local time, the death toll from Super Typhoon Yagi in Myanmar and Vietnam has reached 517, with damage continuing to spread in Thailand and Laos.
According to the Associated Press, Myanmar’s military regime has reported that at least 226 people have died and 77 are missing due to floods caused by the typhoon.
The military government stated that around 160,000 homes were damaged and 240,000 people were displaced.
The death toll is expected to rise further as many victims were not counted due to communication disruptions caused by civil war and floods.
Vietnam’s disaster authorities have reported 291 people dead and 38 missing due to typhoons, floods, and landslides.
The number of homes damaged has reached 235,000, and the agricultural land damaged exceeds 300,000 hectares.
It is predicted that the damage in Southeast Asia due to Typhoon Yagi will increase further, with around 40 deaths or disappearances occurring in the Philippines.
