A 30-year-old Namibian woman was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg for attempting to smuggle cocaine into South Africa by swallowing around 60 ⁤capsules containing the‍ drug.

According to local media, the woman was taken to hospital where an X-ray revealed a large number‌ of capsules in her⁢ stomach.

Atlenda Mate, spokesperson for the South African police,‌ stated that the police had received intelligence about the woman’s attempt to smuggle cocaine and were waiting for her arrival at the airport.

The police immediately arrested⁢ the woman as she ⁢passed‌ through ⁤immigration⁣ and recovered approximately 60 capsules containing cocaine.

The woman’s actions are a⁢ prime example of the dangers of ‘body packing’, a method of ‍smuggling drugs across borders by‍ hiding them in the body.

In the last two months, 10 drug dealers ‌have‌ been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport, with the seized drugs valued at 13 million rand (approximately 1 billion won).

The risks associated with ⁤’body packing’ are extremely high, as the packages can burst inside the body, leading to sudden death.

A recent incident in Brazil highlights the dangers of this method, where a Bolivian woman died of a drug overdose after some of the cocaine capsules in her body exploded.
