Deansgate Station Renamed After Olivia Dean for 2026 BRITs in Manchester

Manchester’s Deansgate train station is undergoing a temporary identity shift, now officially ‘Olivia Deansgate’ in a nod to rising star Olivia Dean ahead of the BRIT Awards. The awards show, a landmark event for the city, marks the first time in its 50-year history that the BRITs have been held outside of London.

The unusual rebranding, orchestrated by train company Northern, is a celebration of Dean’s five nominations at this year’s ceremony, including the coveted Artist of the Year award. While intended as a festive gesture, the change hasn’t been universally welcomed. Some commuters have voiced their frustration, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) labeling it “a project designed to confuse tourists.”

Northern has responded to concerns, assuring passengers that the signage will revert to its original form once the BRIT Awards conclude. “I am sorry for any confusion this may cause, this has been done to celebrate the Brit Awards and the signs will change back after,” the company stated in a reply on social media.

The renaming comes on the heels of a remarkable year for Olivia Dean. Her second studio album, ‘The Art Of Loving,’ released last year, garnered critical acclaim, landing a spot on NME’s Albums of the Year list. The album’s success also saw Dean achieve a historic feat: becoming the first female solo artist to simultaneously have four singles in the UK Top 10.

NME’s review of ‘The Art Of Loving’ highlighted Dean’s growing stature within the British music scene, placing her alongside artists like RAYE and Sam Fender – performers who have successfully navigated the path to larger stages while maintaining a distinct lyrical voice. The review noted that the album solidifies Dean’s position as a rising pop star, poised for continued success.

Dean’s momentum continued earlier this month with a Grammy Award win for Best New Artist. In her acceptance speech, she used the platform to celebrate the significant influence of immigration, a statement that resonated with many.

The BRIT Awards themselves are undergoing a transformation alongside Dean’s ascent. Jack Whitehall is set to return as host for a sixth consecutive year, and a new trophy design, inspired by Manchester and created by Matthew Williamson, has been unveiled.

The performance lineup for the ceremony is shaping up to be a diverse and exciting mix of talent. Confirmed performers include Harry Styles, Olivia Dean, HUNTR/X’s EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, Wolf Alice, Mark Ronson, Alex Warren, Sombr, and Rosalía.

Jacob Alon has been recognized as the 2026 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award winner, signaling his potential for future success. Beyond Dean, Lola Young, Sam Fender, Lily Allen, and Jim Legxacy are leading the pack in terms of nominations this year.

The awards show will also honor established figures in the music industry. Mark Ronson will receive the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, while Noel Gallagher will be presented with the ‘Songwriter Of The Year’ award.

The 2026 BRIT Awards will be broadcast on ITV1 in the UK, with performances also available worldwide on YouTube. The full list of nominees can be found online.
