Margaret Fitzgerald (née Cubbard) of Coole Park, Bohermore, Galway, died at her home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026.

Formerly of Fr. Burke Road, Claddagh, Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her husband, John, and five children: Mike, John, Karen, Patrick, and Robert. She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Mike, her infant daughter Carmel, her sisters Kathleen, Jean, and Ann, and her brother Mike.

She is also mourned by her sister Bridget; brothers Martin, Johnny, Paddy, and Anthony; daughters-in-law and partners Georgina, Marie, Helen, and Seona; and her grandchildren.

Funeral Arrangements

Funeral proceedings will take place over two days. On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, Margaret will lie in repose at the O’ Flaherty Funeral Parlour on Munster Avenue from 4:30 p.m. To 6 p.m., with removal at 6:30 p.m. To St. Mary’s Church, Claddagh.

A Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. Following the mass, she will be laid to rest in Rahoon Cemetery. The service will be live-streamed via the Dominicans Claddagh website.

The family has requested family flowers. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Margaret may contribute to the Galway Hospice or St. Joseph’s Ward at Galway University Hospital (GUH).

The family expressed gratitude for the care provided by the staff of the Galway Hospice, and St. Joseph’s Ward at Galway University Hospital, describing the care as excellent and the staff as helpful and kind.
