Death Toll Surges Past 1,500: Israel Unleashes Fresh Wave of Airstrikes

Israeli airstrikes killed more than 1,500 people in one day, the worst loss of life in 18 years.

Lebanon’s Health Ministry said at least 356 people were killed and more than 1,200 wounded in Israeli airstrikes.
The dead included 24 children and 42 women, as well as emergency workers.

“Most of those who came to the hospital were civilians, including women and children.”
It is the largest casualty since the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah.
Over the past 11 months, about 600 people have died, and that’s more than half in one day.
The Israeli military said it had carried out more than 650 airstrikes in the past 24 hours, hitting more than 1,100 Hezbollah sites.

“I think today is a significant turning point. We have reached a point where we have not ordered rockets or precision munitions.”
Israel claimed it had attacked Hezbollah facilities, but civilian casualties were high.
Israeli forces have again targeted the capital Beirut, following Hezbollah’s strongholds in southern and eastern Lebanon.
The circumstances surrounding the strike were unknown, but Reuters reported that it targeted senior Hezbollah commander Ali Karaki.
It comes four days after the killing of Hezbollah commanders, including Brahim Aqil, on the 20th.

“We’ve taken out the top brass, we’ve taken out the terrorists, we’ve taken out the missiles. We’re not done yet.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that it would deploy additional troops to the Middle East, where tensions are rising.
The specific scale and mission were not disclosed.
Foreign media outlets analyzed that the US is trying to show its will to defend Israel while blocking intervention from Iran and others, but it is uncertain whether tensions in the Middle East will subside.
