# Justice Minister Faces Scrutiny Over Bitcoin Donation and Coordinator’s Departure
The Czech Republic’s Minister of Justice,Eva Decroix,is under increasing pressure to provide a extensive description regarding a controversial bitcoin donation and the subsequent departure of the coordinator tasked with investigating the matter. The situation, which began unfolding at the end of May, centers around a nearly billion-crown donation of cryptocurrency to the ministry of Justice and has already led to the resignation of former Minister Pavel blažek.
## Controversy Surrounds Billion-Crown Bitcoin Donation
The core of the controversy lies in a considerable donation of bitcoin received by the Ministry of Justice. This cryptocurrency originated from Tomáš Jiřikovský, a convicted criminal who served time in prison for embezzlement, drug trafficking, and illegal arms dealing. Jiřikovský operated an online marketplace for drug sales and was released from prison in 2021.
The donation sparked immediate concern, raising questions about the source of the funds and the appropriateness of accepting such a gift from an individual with a criminal past. The scale of the donation – nearly a billion crowns - further amplified the scrutiny.
## Coordinator’s report and Calls for Openness
Following the initial reports, a coordinator was appointed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the donation. Though, the final report from this coordinator has not been published, fueling accusations of a cover-up. The Mayor’s Bureau expressed gratitude that the head of the resort acknowledged a dialog error regarding the coordinator’s work on the David Uhlíř case.
The Minister justified the decision not to require the coordinator’s final report,citing duplication with an ongoing audit. However, critics argue that the absence of the coordinator’s report necessitates the swift and complete publication of the audit findings. The Bureau of the movement held an extraordinary meeting lasting over two hours online, ultimately concluding that the Minister has not adequately explained the reasons for withholding the coordinator’s report.
## Decroix Promises Explanation, Faces Political Responsibility
Eva Decroix has pledged to address the concerns publicly, promising to convene a press conference on Friday to explain the departure of the coordinator, David Uhlíř. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Decroix stated, “Since the beginning of my work at the ministry, I have been open to the Ministry, I have been standing behind my steps and I am ready to bear full political responsibility for them.”
