Deep Tech Momentum Launches Europe’s First Pan-European Deeptech Marketplace

Deep Tech Momentum Launches Europe’s First Pan-European Deeptech Marketplace

November 18, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor World

Today marks the launch of Europe’s first pan-European deeptech capital and customer acquisition marketplace, created by Deep Tech Momentum. This initiative aims to position Europe among the top deeptech ecosystems worldwide.

Recent comments from leaders like Mario Draghi and Emmanuel Macron highlight the need for Europe to bridge the innovation gap to maintain technological independence. Yet, Europe struggles with coordinating innovation investment and requires a unified approach focused on deeptech.

Deep Tech Momentum was established in 2022 by Isabelle Flanagan and Martin Schilling to discover top deeptech innovators in Europe. Since then, the event has significantly grown, aiding over 800 founders, facilitating more than €120 million in investments, and fostering 100 partnerships between founders and corporations.

Schilling and Flanagan met while working on the Techstars deeptech Berlin program in early 2022. They previously invested in over 70 deeptech and B2B startups through this program. Schilling noted that many talented founders in life sciences move to the US for capital and clients, and he argues that Europe has the technology to succeed in building global partnerships.

Both founders realized, during their time at Techstars, that many consumer-focused startups do not contribute to the health of people or the planet. They shifted their focus to B2B deeptech investments, aiming to support companies that would enhance future quality of life and sustainability.

Deep Tech Momentum helps deeptech startups by providing access to capital and customers in two main ways:

  1. Flagship Conferences: DTM organizes two annual deeptech bootcamps.
  2. Digital Marketplace: DTM’s online platform features a comprehensive database of European deep technologies and a matchmaking tool that connects investors with high-tech startups using AI.

The platform focuses on key deeptech areas relevant to Europe, including:

  • Novel AI applications
  • Bio Builders, such as life sciences and biopharma startups
  • Clean Energy
  • Smart Mobility
  • Robotics in Industrial Tech
  • Future of Computing including quantum technology
  • New Space & Resilience
  • Advanced Materials

Schilling sees the platform as a means to ensure that capable founders have access to capital and customers, regardless of their existing networks.
