DeepSeek Annualized Revenue Run Rate Hits $1B Following API Price Hikes
Chinese artificial intelligence lab DeepSeek has reached an annualized revenue run rate of $1bn, according to a report from The Information citing two people with direct knowledge of the matter. The figure marks a rapid climb from under $500M a few months prior, propelled by substantial price increases for developer application programming interfaces alongside sustained demand for its models. DeepSeek has not commented on the financial figures.
API Price Hikes Drive Revenue Growth
The revenue surge stems primarily from steep adjustments to API fees rather than paid consumer tiers, as DeepSeek’s primary chatbot remains free to the public. The lab raised its API pricing between 2.3 and 4.5 times depending on the specific model used, following an initial warning issued to developers regarding upcoming cost increases.
Despite the sharp increases, founder Liang Wenfeng informed investors that the customer base largely stayed with the platform rather than migrating to competitors. That developer retention powered a near-doubling of the annualized revenue run rate to $1bn. the company earned approximately 475m yuan, or roughly $70.7m, in the first seven months of 2026, marking a tenfold increase compared to its total earnings in 2025.
Funding Rounds and Market Valuation

The revenue milestone coincides with DeepSeek closing in on a massive $7.5bn second funding round. That financing effort reportedly values the artificial intelligence company at approximately 500bn yuan, or $74bn. The fundraising process experienced turbulence when a pause was triggered by viral leaked remarks from Liang on Chinese social media platforms, though the round successfully resumed following the disruption.
The ongoing $7.5bn raise follows a previous outside funding round totaling roughly $7bn that closed earlier in June. That initial outside round was largely backed by Liang himself. Most of DeepSeek’s incoming capital now continues to flow from enterprise and independent developers utilizing paid API endpoints to build applications around the lab’s underlying models.
