Awaiting Charges: Civil Servant Involved in Fatal Jakarta Crash

JAKARTA — A 24-year-old civil servant from the Ministry of Defense (MoD) has been named a suspect in a fatal traffic incident in West Jakarta, but authorities have yet to detain him. The young man, identified only by his initials MSK, was involved in a crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian and injured five others.

"As of now, he hasn’t been arrested," said Joko Siswanto, head of the traffic management unit at the Metro Jakarta Barat Police, speaking to reporters on Monday. The delay in detention is due to MSK currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. Authorities plan to examine him further once he has recovered.

The incident occurred on Monday, January 20, at around 1:30 AM local time on Palmerah Dalam Street. MSK, who was driving a government-issued vehicle, was behind the wheel at the time of the crash. The pedestrian, identified only by his initials TR, succumbed to his injuries a day later while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

As of now, one victim, a Grab ride-hailing passenger with the initials ME, remains hospitalized. The others have been discharged. Police have not yet released details about the victims’ conditions, deferring to medical professionals for updates.
