Deity Microphones has introduced the PR-4, a compact field recorder designed for professional audio capture in video production workflows. The device delivers four XLR inputs and six-track recording capability in a portable form factor suitable for on-camera mounting or integration into sound bags.

The PR-4 supports 32-bit float recording, which allows for extensive post-production gain adjustment without introducing noise or distortion. This feature is particularly valuable in unpredictable recording environments where audio levels may vary significantly during capture.

At the core of the recorder is Deity’s new ReGain Preamp™ architecture, providing up to 60 dB of gain with an equivalent input noise of -127 dBV. This performance enables the PR-4 to drive demanding dynamic microphones without requiring external inline boosters, preserving clarity even with low-output sources.

The device includes VoiceAware Automix™, an intelligent mixing system that continuously analyzes incoming audio signals to prioritize active voices while reducing the presence of inactive channels. This function helps minimize ambient buildup and maintains dialogue clarity in multi-speaker environments, generating a stereo reference mix useful for post-production editing.

For timecode synchronization, the PR-4 offers both wired SMPTE LTC/ATC and wireless timecode options compatible with Deity’s ecosystem. It also features Sidus App control, enabling full wireless remote operation via smartphone or tablet for adjusting settings, monitoring levels and managing recordings during shoots.

Input/output configuration includes two XLR combo jacks supporting mic, line, +48V phantom power, AES3, and AES42 signals, along with stereo 3.5 mm TRS main outputs and dedicated timecode I/O. Dual media recording provides simultaneous backup to two storage locations, enhancing reliability during critical captures.

The recorder is positioned as a solution for documentary, electronic news gathering (ENG), wedding videography, corporate video, podcasting, and run-and-gun productions where compact size and professional audio quality are both required. By integrating multiple functions into a single unit, Deity aims to reduce the need for separate field mixers, timecode generators, and monitoring devices in small crew setups.

The PR-4 represents a shift in what creators should expect from compact audio recorders, this isn’t a handheld recorder being repurposed for video. The inspiration came from analog ENG-style field mixers where everything was compact and self-contained.

We focused on the jobs people do every day; interviews, small crews, run-and-gun setups. And we built a recorder that fits naturally into those workflows.

Pre-orders for the PR-4 began on April 14, 2026, with units expected to ship in mid-May 2026. The device is available through authorized retailers including B&H Photo Video.

The PR-4 enters a market segment where compact audio recorders increasingly need to meet professional demands for channel count, bit depth, timecode sync, and remote control. Its combination of six-track recording, 32-bit float performance, and integrated wireless features positions it as a tool for creators seeking to streamline their audio workflow without sacrificing fidelity or flexibility.
