Delhi AAP MLA Naresh Balyan Arrested for Gangster Links and Extortion Charges
AAP MLA Naresh Balyan Arrested for Extortion Charges
Delhi Police’s crime branch arrested AAP MLA Naresh Balyan on Saturday. He faces charges of extortion linked to gangster Kapil Sangwan. Sangwan is involved in multiple extortion and firing cases and is currently in the UK under a red corner notice. His associates carried out shootings in Delhi recently over extortion demands.
Balyan’s arrest follows an investigation that started last year after an audio clip surfaced. The clip suggests a conversation between Balyan and Sangwan, discussing extortion. Balyan was questioned but did not cooperate. This prompted police to take him into custody around 7 pm under FIR number 191/23.
The audio recording allegedly reveals them discussing recovery efforts and threats to a builder named Guru Charan. Charan filed a complaint after receiving death threats for not paying. In the conversation, Balyan inquired about targets while Sangwan indicated Charan was on his list.
Naresh Balyan represents Uttam Nagar in Delhi and previously served as the DDC chairman for south Delhi. Sangwan has gained notoriety after orchestrating significant criminal activities and is connected to a violent rivalry with another gangster, Manjeet Mahal.
