Delhi Airport Runway Closure Set to Impact Flight Schedules
Updated June 07, 2025
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) will temporarily close Runway 10/28 for three months to perform essential upgrades. The work is intended to improve operations during periods of heavy fog. DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said the closure will affect around 100 flights.
Jaipuriar explained that the airport has four runways, and Runway 10/28 requires upgrades. The project includes updating the existing Instrument Landing System (ILS), which is currently out of service. The upgrades will also make the runway CAT III-B compliant, enabling landings in extremely low visibility.
The runway closure for these critical upgrades to the Instrument Landing System (ILS) will lead to flight schedule adjustments. According to DIAL, about 100 flights will be affected, wiht over 40 being rescheduled and 57 departures canceled. This represents about 7% of Delhi Airport’s total flight capacity.
Jaipuriar added that cancellations were strategically implemented to minimize disruption. Sectors with multiple connectivity options experienced a reduction of 8-9% to avoid significant impact.
“Out of the four runways that the Delhi airport has, there is one runway 10/28 that we are planning to shut down for three months because there are upgrades that are required,” said Jaipuriar.
What’s next
Following the upgrades, Delhi Airport anticipates improved operational efficiency during foggy conditions, ensuring safer and more reliable air travel. Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest flight data.
