delhi Airport Grounded: Thick Fog Causes Flight Delays and Frustration
New Delhi, India – A blanket of dense fog descended upon Delhi early Friday morning, bringing air travel at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to a near standstill. Major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, where forced to temporarily halt departures and arrivals due to the severely reduced visibility.
Air India echoed the concerns, stating that the dense fog was impacting flight operations not only in Delhi but also in other parts of northern India.
This isn’t the first time Delhi’s notorious winter fog has caused travel headaches. The phenomenon, common during the colder months, often leads to meaningful disruptions for passengers.
“Did you hear about the chaos at Delhi Airport this morning?” Maya asked her friend Raj. “My brother was supposed to fly out early, but his flight got delayed because of the fog.”
Raj, who had seen reports online, replied, “Oh no, really? The fog was really thick, wasn’t it?”
“Apparently!” Maya exclaimed. “Visibility was down to practically nothing. I heard flights were temporarily grounded because it was too risky to take off or land.”
Raj expressed his sympathy, “That must have been incredibly frustrating for everyone. What airlines were affected?”
“Seems like all the major ones – IndiGo, Air India, probably a bunch of others too,” Maya said. “IndiGo even tweeted about it, saying departures and arrivals were on hold.”
Concerned, Raj asked, “So what happens now? Will flights be delayed all day?”
Maya sighed, “They said even after the fog lifts, there could be delays because of all the backlog. My brother’s flight is already a few hours behind schedule.”
Raj agreed, “It’s awful to think about all the people stuck there, waiting. This thick fog is a real problem during winters in North India, right?”
“Yeah, it is,” Maya confirmed. “Every year, it causes all sorts of disruptions, not just at the airport but also on the roads.”
“I hope they figure something out to minimize the impact in the future,” Raj said.
“Me too,” Maya replied. “It’s a nightmare for travelers!”

Aisha: Did you see what happened at Delhi Airport this morning?
Ben: No, what’s going on?
Aisha: Apparently, there was this super thick fog that rolled in, and flights were pretty much grounded for hours!
Ben: Wow, really? That sounds awful. Which airlines were affected?
Aisha: From what I’ve heard, almost everyone – IndiGo,Air India, probably manny others too. IndiGo even tweeted about it, saying departures and arrivals were on hold because of the low visibility.
Ben: I can’t imagine being stuck at the airport and not knowing when yoru flight is going to leave.
Aisha: Right? And even after the fog lifts, there are bound to be massive delays because of the backlog.
Ben: That’s so frustrating for travelers. This happens every winter, doesn’t it?
Aisha: Yeah, Delhi’s winter fog is infamous. It causes headaches at the airport and on the roads every year.
Ben: do they ever try anything to minimize the impact?
Aisha: Well, they have procedures in place, but it’s such a common problem, it’s hard to avoid completely. I guess we’ll have to wait and see if they come up with any new solutions.
