Delhi BJP Chief Questions AAP’s Delayed Promises to Auto Drivers
Delhi BJP Chief Counters AAP’s Auto Driver Promises with Claims of ‘Hollow Guarantees’
New Delhi: In a bid to woo auto drivers ahead of the crucial delhi Assembly elections, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva on Wednesday challenged Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal‘s recent promises, labeling them as “hollow guarantees.”
Sachdeva’s comments came a day after Kejriwal announced a five-point plan for auto drivers, including a ₹10-lakh life insurance cover, if AAP is re-elected in the upcoming polls.
Addressing reporters at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, where he met with auto drivers, Sachdeva questioned the timing of Kejriwal’s promises. “Arvind Kejriwal claims that if he gets another chance, he will fulfill the promises made to auto drivers. But his government is in power now—why not address these issues promptly?” he asked.
Sachdeva’s remarks come on the heels of the BJP’s own promises to auto drivers, including cashless medical treatment adn a life insurance plan, announced earlier this week. The BJP leader emphasized his party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises, stating, “Inviting auto drivers home for tea does not solve their problems. It requires meeting them at their workplace. Today, we went to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station prepaid booth on the invitation of auto drivers.”
He further accused Kejriwal of failing to deliver on previous promises made to auto drivers in 2014, which included new auto stands, incorporating waiting time into meters, and curbing corruption in the Transport Department.
“None of these promises have been fulfilled to date,” Sachdeva alleged, adding that ”not just auto drivers, but all Delhi residents are ready for change. The BJP’s victory in Delhi is inevitable, and conversion is certain.”
The battle for the support of auto drivers, a significant voting bloc in Delhi, is heating up as both parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the upcoming elections.

ND3: Mr. Sharma, the Delhi Assembly elections are drawing closer, and both the BJP and AAP are vying for the support of auto drivers. Delhi BJP chief, Virendra Sachdeva, dismissed AAP’s recent promises as ”hollow guarantees.” What’s your take on this heated exchange?
Omar Sharma, Self-reliant Political Analyst: It’s a classic case of pre-election maneuvering. Both parties recognize the meaningful influence of auto drivers as a voting bloc. The BJP has responded directly to AAP’s promises with their own, attempting to portray themselves as more proactive and in touch with the needs of auto drivers.
ND3: Mr. Sachdeva questioned the timing of AAP’s promises, highlighting that they are in power now and could address these issues promptly. Do you agree with his assessment?
Sharma: It’s a valid point. Promises made just before elections are often viewed with skepticism. Voters may question why these issues haven’t been prioritized during the incumbent party’s tenure. However, it’s also common for parties to unveil new initiatives close to elections to garner favor with key demographics.
ND3: What about the specific promises made – life insurance, cashless medical treatment? do these resonate with auto drivers, in your view?
Sharma: These are undoubtedly relevant issues for auto drivers, who often face precarious working conditions and lack adequate social safety nets. the success of these promises depends on their practicality and feasibility.
ND3: The BJP has accused AAP of failing to deliver on previous promises made to auto drivers in 2014. How significant is this factor in shapreneuring voters’ decisions?
Sharma: Past performance is a crucial indicator for voters. If auto drivers feel let down by unfulfilled promises, they may be inclined to consider the choice. However, the BJP will need to demonstrate how their plans are different and more likely to succeed.
ND3: how do you see this competition for auto driver votes playing out?
Sharma: It will be a fiercely contested battle. Both parties will intensify their efforts to win over this influential segment. ultimately, the voters will decide which party best addresses their concerns and presents a more compelling vision for the future.
