GRAP Stage 4 Implemented in Delhi-NCR Amid Severe Air Pollution
The air quality in Delhi has significantly worsened, prompting the introduction of GRAP Stage 4 anti-pollution measures, effective from Monday. The Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 457 by 7 PM on Sunday, placing it in the “severe plus” category.
Key Bans Under GRAP Stage 4:
-
Diesel Vehicles: Diesel-run medium and heavy goods vehicles registered in Delhi that meet BS-IV standards or lower are banned. The only exceptions are for those transporting essential goods.
-
Non-Essential Vehicles: Non-essential light commercial vehicles from outside Delhi cannot enter unless they use cleaner fuels such as CNG, BS-VI diesel, or are electric.
- Trucks: Trucks carrying non-essential items are barred unless they use LNG, CNG, or BS-VI diesel.
Adjustments in Schools and Workplaces:
- Classes for grades 6 to 9 and for class 11 may shift to online formats.
- Offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) should operate at 50% capacity, with other employees working from home.
Data shows that 32 out of 34 monitoring stations in Delhi recorded “severe” levels of pollution, with readings above 400 AQI. Levels above 450 are classified as “severe plus,” posing health risks, especially for vulnerable individuals.
As Delhi faces this alarming air quality crisis, these measures aim to reduce pollution and protect public health.
