A Delta Air Lines flight from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Boston turned into a 30-hour travel ordeal after a medical emergency forced the aircraft to divert to Bermuda.
Medical Emergency Forces Overnight Stay in Bermuda
The flight left San Juan heading for Boston before a passenger medical emergency required the pilot to land in Bermuda. Passengers spent nearly three hours stuck on the grounded aircraft before exiting into the terminal. A Delta Air Lines spokesperson stated that the crew subsequently timed out, forcing the airline to place travelers in local hotels overnight. Passengers arrived at their accommodations around 3:00 a.m. on October 6, only to receive early morning wake-up calls to catch shuttle buses back to the airport.

Customs Bottlenecks in Boston
Travelers returned to the Bermuda airport on the morning of October 7, but faced additional flight delays before finally taking off for Boston. Because the trip originated as a domestic flight within U.S. jurisdiction, most passengers did not have passports with them. Upon landing in Boston, travelers remained trapped on the plane for hours while federal authorities processed customs and verified citizenship documents.
People are hungry, babies are crying, no diapers, elderly people who needed medical attention.

Delta Air Lines released a statement emphasizing that the safety of customers and crew comes before all else, thanking passengers for their patience and understanding throughout the disruption. Affected travelers expressed frustration with the lack of communication and disorganization during the multi-day transit delay.
