California Race Decided: Democrat Grey Wins Tight Congressional Contest
Washington, D.C. – Democrat Adam Gray has emerged victorious in California’s closely watched 13th Congressional District race, defeating Republican John Duarte. Duarte conceded the race on Wednesday, according too his campaign spokesperson, Duane dichiara.
Gray’s win comes after all five counties in the district certified their results, giving him a slim 187-vote lead. This victory concludes the final undecided House race in the nation, solidifying the Republican majority in the chamber. With Gray’s win, republicans will hold 220 seats compared to the Democrats’ 215. This means Democrats gained one seat from their pre-election total.
However, the Republican majority could be even tighter in the coming months.Former Representative Matt Gaetz of Florida resigned last month and will not be replaced in the new Congress. Additionally, Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Mike Waltz of Florida are expected to leave the House to join former President Donald Trump’s management.
If all three seats remain vacant, the republican majority would shrink to a razor-thin 217-215. This would leave Republicans with virtually no room for error in any votes requiring party-line support.
