Pigai emphasized the need to address these alleged acts of terror seriously, utilizing applicable legal mechanisms.
“Regarding the widespread terror that befell influencers, I ask the police to investigate it thoroughly so that we know the motive and who the perpetrators are,” Pigai stated in a written statement on Sunday (January 4, 2026).
While appreciating the opinions voiced by influencers and activists, Pigai noted a tendency for these opinions to devolve into attacks on individuals and institutions.
He also pointed out that some individuals exploit this habitat to increase their social media following, even at the expense of others’ reputations.
“Currently we enjoy a democratic surplus, namely the right to express thoughts and feelings which is guaranteed without any traffic protocols. In this situation, it is impractical for institutions, let alone the state, to hinder this freedom,” Pigai said.

Regarding disaster management in Sumatra, Pigai affirmed the government’s serious, systematic, and planned approach to addressing floods and landslides.
