Cubs Pitcher Recalls Surreal Moment Lifting Stanley Cup at Wrigley

Chicago, IL – In 2010, the city of Chicago was buzzing with sports fever. The Blackhawks had just ended a 49-year Stanley Cup drought, and the Cubs, while not yet World Series champions, were a competitive force. It was a time when the cityS passion for its teams was palpable, and a unique moment captured that spirit perfectly.

Former Cubs pitcher Ryan dempster, a true Chicago sports fan, found himself at the center of this unforgettable celebration. Before a crosstown rivalry game against the White Sox, the Blackhawks paraded the Stanley Cup around Wrigley Field, posing for photos with Cubs players.

Dempster, standing near the pitcher’s mound, was right in the thick of it. “It was unreal,” he recalled.”They come on the field. The White Sox are there. We were good. The White Sox were good. The Blackhawks were grate. There was, at that time, really just an amazing Chicago sports scene going on.Now they come to Wrigley with the Cup.”

But the night took an even more surreal turn when Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews handed Dempster the Cup.

“A couple nights before that,I went out with the (Blackhawks) guys with the cup and got to know a bunch of them,” Dempster saeid.”I was sitting there on the mound, about to do the (ceremonial) first pitch.Jonathan Toews says, ‘Here.’ I said, ‘Here? What do you mean, here?’ He says, ‘Pick it up.’ I said,’Ahh,I know the rules. I’m not suppose to. I didn’t win the Cup.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, but if you don’t, 40,000 people are going to boo you. I suggest picking it up.'”

When the captain tells you to raise the Cup, you listen.

Dempster, a true Chicago sports fan, didn’t hesitate. He hoisted the Stanley Cup, basking in the roar of the crowd and the camaraderie of two iconic Chicago teams. It was a moment that perfectly captured the city’s passion for its sports heroes.

Jenna: Did you see that old photo circulating online of Ryan Dempster holding the Stanley cup at Wrigley Field? It’s crazy!

Mike: Wait, seriously? Why would a Cub be holding the Stanley Cup?

Jenna: This was back in 2010! The Blackhawks just won their first Stanley Cup in almost 50 years, and they were celebrating with a parade around Wrigley Field before a game between the Cubs and White Sox. Crazy, right?

Mike: That is wild! I remember the Blackhawks winning; the whole city was going bananas. but Cubs and Blackhawks together? That’s something you don’t see every day.

Jenna: Apparently, it was a pretty surreal moment. dempster said Toews just handed him the Cup, basically telling him he had to raise it or the crowd would boo him.

Mike: Haha,Toews isn’t wrong! Can you imagine, the captain of the Blackhawks telling a Cubs player to lift the cup? It must have been amazing to be there.

Jenna: Dempster actually said it was an “unreal” experience. He talked about how there was just this incredible energy in the city with both teams doing well, and the atmosphere wasn’t just about the rivalry, but about celebrating Chicago sports.

mike: I can only imagine the crowd going wild seeing that. It’s a perfect example of how Chicago truly loves its teams.

Jenna: I know, right? It’s certainly a moment that captures the spirit of Chicago sports. It’s a testament to how passionate the fans are and the incredible bond between the teams and the city.

Mike: You know what? I need to find that video. Seeing a Cub hoisting the Stanley Cup is definitely something I need to witness.
