LONG POND, Pa. – Denny Hamlin will lead the field as the top seed in NASCAR’s inaugural In-Season Challenge, a bracket-style tournament spanning five races. The challenge, part of a new media rights agreement including TNT, offers a $1 million prize to the victor.
Chase Briscoe’s Cup race victory Sunday at Pocono Raceway finalized the 32-driver field, which was steadfast by race results from Michigan, Mexico City, and Pocono.
Drivers will face off in head-to-head matchups based on seeding, mirroring the NCAA basketball tournament format. Winners will advance through each round.
Hamlin’s first matchup is against Ty Dillon,the 32nd seed. Following Hamlin and Briscoe, the top five seeds are chris Buescher, Christopher Bell, and Chase Elliott.
The single-elimination format will narrow the field to 16 at Chicago, eight at Sonoma, four at Dover, and the final two at indianapolis Motor Speedway.
