Denny Hamlin‘s 2025 NASCAR Plans Impacted by Major Team Change
NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin’s preparations for the 2025 season have faced a significant setback after a surprising team announcement. Hamlin, who drives the #11 car for Joe Gibbs Racing, learned that his crew chief, Chris Gabehart, will step into the role of competition director. This change means Gabehart will no longer lead Hamlin’s team after six seasons. Chris Gayle will take over as the new crew chief for the #11 car.
Hamlin and Gabehart worked together to achieve 22 race victories, despite not clinching a championship. Hamlin expressed shock at the news, stating, “I certainly was shocked.” He later added that he is adjusting to the change and understands the team’s need to pursue improvements.
Hamlin explained that while the initial news was surprising, he is focused on the future. “The first few days were a shock, but I’m moving on,” he said. He recognizes that Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) aims to enhance their overall performance. “If our program improves, the #11 car will benefit too,” he noted.
In addition to the crew chief change, Hamlin will also end his 19-year partnership with FedEx, which began in 2005. These transitions mark a new chapter for Hamlin as he prepares for the upcoming season.
