The Denver Broncos have narrowed their focus to six specific players as potential targets for their No. 62 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft, according to General Manager George Paton. Speaking during a pre-draft press conference alongside head coach Sean Payton, Paton confirmed the team has identified a shortlist of prospects they believe could be available when their second-round pick comes up.
“We still go through our process. We feel like we have six players we’re kind of focused on that could be there at [pick] 62,” Paton said. “We feel good about those players. We’re going to keep working through them.”
The Broncos enter the 2026 draft without a first-round selection, making their second-round pick the first opportunity to add new talent to the roster. This situation mirrors previous years under Paton’s leadership when Denver was similarly positioned. In 2022, the Broncos selected linebacker Nik Bonitto with their first pick of the draft, and in 2023, they chose wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. As their initial selection. Both players have since earned All-Pro honors, reinforcing the front office’s confidence in identifying impactful talent outside the top 32 picks.
Paton and Payton have spent recent weeks sequestered in the team’s draft preparation area, referred to internally as the “draft dungeon,” as they finalize evaluations ahead of the draft. The current work takes place amid a transitional period for the franchise, with plans to vacate their existing headquarters in June and move into a new facility.
Despite the absence of a first-round pick, the Broncos express confidence in their ability to extract value from the second round. Paton pointed to past successes in this range, noting that second-round selections such as running back Javonte Williams and defensive back RJ Harvey have also contributed significantly to the team, further validating their approach to mid-round talent acquisition.
The team’s strategy reflects a consistent process rather than a reaction to their draft position. Paton emphasized that the evaluation remains thorough and methodical, with the staff continuing to assess the six identified prospects as the draft approaches. While specific names were not disclosed in the public remarks, the focus on a defined group underscores the Broncos’ preparation for a selection they view as critical to shaping the 2026 roster.
