Denver vs St. Thomas-Minnesota: Final Weeks Update | [Year]

St. Thomas and Denver Set for Summit League Rematch

– The St. Thomas Tommies men’s basketball team travels to Denver, Colorado, to face the Denver Pioneers in a Summit League contest at Hamilton Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. CT.

This matchup marks the 11th meeting between the two programs, with St. Thomas holding a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series. The Tommies swept the series in both the 2022-23 and 2024-25 seasons, including a quarterfinal victory over Denver in the 2025 Summit League Tournament held in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The most recent contest between these teams, a Summit League opener earlier this season, saw St. Thomas secure a 92-88 victory at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena. Nick Janowski led the Tommies with 31 points, including 19 in the second half. Austin Herro added a career-high 15 points, while Ben Oosterbaan contributed 16 points and a career-best four three-pointers. Isaiah Johnson-Arigu chipped in with 12 points off the bench.

St. Thomas shot 50 percent from the field and 7-of-15 from beyond the arc in the second half of that game, sealing the win with six consecutive free throws in the closing minutes. It was UST’s fifth straight win in a Summit League opener and the third of four consecutive games where they scored 90 or more points.

The Tommies are coming off a historic win on against Kansas City, a 104-64 victory that represented the largest win over a Division I opponent in program history. The 40-point margin surpassed the previous DI-era record of 36 points. St. Thomas dominated from the start, building a 43-29 halftime lead and extending their advantage to as many as 44 points.

Denver will be looking to bounce back after a 90-70 loss to South Dakota, a game in which Carson Johnson scored 32 points.

The series history indicates a competitive rivalry. Prior to St. Thomas’ recent success, Denver won the first two meetings in the 2021-22 season. The Tommies will be aiming for a regular season sweep of the Pioneers on Saturday.
