Denzel Washington Opens Up About Past Addictions and Emotional Damages: An Inspiring Journey to Recovery
Denzel Washington recently opened up about his struggles with addiction during an interview with Esquire. The 69-year-old actor shared that he has faced issues with drugs and alcohol throughout his life, affecting his career and personal relationships.
Washington, who plans to celebrate his 70th birthday sober, reflected on his past. He mentioned, “I’ve done a lot of damage to the body. We’ll see. I’ve been clean.” He talked about how certain times in his life were challenging due to his addiction.
“I never got strung out on heroin or cocaine,” he explained. However, he admitted that wine became a significant part of his life—especially after his family built a wine cellar at home. He developed an appreciation for expensive wines, often spending thousands on bottles.
Most recently, Washington starred in Gladiator II, which was released on November 15. He appeared alongside well-known actors like Pedro Pascal.
