Deputies were dispatched to the 4700 block of New Walkertown Road (U.S. 311) just before 6 a.m. On May 2, 2026, to assist emergency medical services. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the teenager and his dog had been gunned down.
Both the boy and the animal were pronounced dead at the scene, according to reporting from the Charlotte Observer.

Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough issued a statement describing the killing as a devastating act that challenged his view of societal values.

Ongoing Investigation
The shooter fled the scene and remains at large. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is currently leading the investigation into the shooting.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the 16-year-old victim or a motive for the attack.
