Bridgeport police arrested a 45-year-old man on Sunday evening after he allegedly broke vehicle windows and pointed a gun at multiple people, according to an official statement from the city’s Office of Emergency Management.
Deron Brooks was taken into custody following a disturbance call in the city’s East End, where officers responded to reports of individuals on dirt bikes causing a disruption, police said. The incident unfolded in the 300 block of Carroll Avenue at approximately 7:12 p.m. On April 26, 2026.
Arrest and Charges
Shawnna White, the public information officer for the Bridgeport Office of Emergency Management, said Brooks was on foot when officers arrived and was observed breaking vehicle windows. Witnesses told police he also “allegedly threatened callers by pointing a firearm in their direction,” White stated.

Officers located Brooks near the intersection of Stratford and Union avenues at 7:16 p.m. And took him into custody without further incident. During the arrest, police said Brooks “had a firearm displayed in his right hand.”
Brooks now faces multiple charges, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, first-degree threatening, second-degree breach of peace, criminal use of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, first-degree robbery, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance in a school zone. His bond was set at $500,000, according to White.
Prior Incidents
Public records indicate Brooks has had previous encounters with law enforcement in Bridgeport. In November 2013, he was charged with third-degree assault and breach of peace after allegedly punching an auto mechanic during a dispute over repair costs. Court documents from that case show Brooks turned himself in after the incident and was released on a $5,000 bond.
Community Response
The Bridgeport Police Department has not released additional details about the motive behind Sunday’s incident. The department’s public blotter, which excludes juvenile arrests, did not list any further updates on the case as of Monday morning.
Residents in the area described the scene as tense, with some expressing concern over repeated disturbances involving dirt bikes and street gatherings. Police have not indicated whether additional suspects are being sought in connection with the incident.
Legal Proceedings
Brooks is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court for his arraignment. No date has been publicly announced for the hearing. The case remains under investigation by the Bridgeport Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.
