Boris Kollár, the leader of the Sme rodina party and former speaker of the Slovak parliament, has failed to comply with a court order requiring him to issue a public apology to investigator Ján Čurilla.
The Regional Court in Bratislava ruled in late March 2026 that Kollár must apologize for repeatedly and publicly describing Čurilla as part of the čurillovskej mafie (Čurilla’s mafia).
Under the terms of the final court judgment, Kollár was granted a ten-day period to publish the apology. The court specified that the apology had to be posted on the politician’s Facebook page—where it was not to be deleted—and distributed via a news agency press release.
The mandated ten-day deadline expired at midnight on May 11, 2026. According to legal representatives, the apology did not appear on Kollár’s social media profiles or within the systems of news agencies.
Peter Kubina, the legal representative for Ján Čurilla, announced on May 12, 2026, that the failure to meet the deadline would result in a proposal for execution to be filed with the court.
Kubina noted that while the court order was ignored, Kollár remained active on social media throughout the ten-day window. The lawyer pointed out that the politician posted content regarding other topics, including baptisms and Mother’s Day, during the period he was required to publish the apology.
The legal dispute follows a period of public accusations by Kollár against the elite investigator. While the court has mandated the public apology, other reports indicate that Kollár has already paid 50,000 euros to Čurilla. Despite this payment, the specific requirement for a public apology remains unfulfilled.
The current legal status indicates that the payment of damages does not exempt the defendant from the obligation to publish the court-ordered apology. The move toward execution follows the definitive expiration of the time limit set by the Regional Court in Bratislava.
