Prevc Dominates Opening of 4 Hills Tournament; Swiss Skiers Show Promise
Domen Prevc of Slovenia delivered a commanding performance to win the opening competition of the prestigious 4 Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf, Germany, on December 29, 2024. Prevc soared to victory with jumps of 141.5 and 140 meters, finishing a considerable 17.5 points ahead of his nearest competitors.
The Slovenian’s win carries particular weight, coming a decade after his older brother, Peter Prevc, claimed the overall 4 Hills title in 2015. Timi Zajc (Slovenia) and Daniel Tschofenig (Austria) rounded out the podium.
Amongst the Swiss contingent, Gregor Deschwanden led the way, achieving a commendable 23rd-place finish. The Lucerne native demonstrated consistent form with jumps of 127 and 128 meters, signaling a potential return to peak performance after a recent challenging period.
Sandro Hauswirth also secured a spot in the final round, finishing 26th with jumps of 125 and 123 meters. Veteran Swiss ski jumper Simon Ammann, competing in his 27th 4 Hills Tournament, narrowly missed qualification for the final, finishing 35th after a jump of 122 meters. He was bested in his qualifying round duel by Norway’s Halvor Egner granerud.
The 4 Hills Tournament continues with competitions in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck, and Bischofshofen, offering further opportunities for athletes to contend for the coveted overall title.
