The Minister of Health, Abdullah Sidi Mohamed Wedih, said that the rate of blood donations in Mauritania is “less than the required rate globally.”
The minister was speaking yesterday, Saturday, during a visit to a number of health facilities linked to the sector in Nouakchott, including the National Center for Blood Transfusion.
He emphasized in statements published by the ministry on its Facebook page that this “requires a call for blood centers and banks in Nouakchott and at home.”
He called on citizens to “give,” stressing the need to “focus on awareness and sensitization in this regard.”
Mauritanian hospitals need 90,000 donors every year, evenly distributed across all provinces, according to data published by the National Blood Donation Center last June.
