Kuwait and Iraq Play Out Goalless Draw in Asian Qualifiers

Kuwait, September 10 (QNA) – The Kuwait national team and their Iraqi guests played out a goalless draw at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium this evening. The match was part of the third round of Asian qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The match saw the first dismissal for Iraqi national team player Rabin Sulaka in the 7th minute, leaving the team to play with ten players for the remainder of the match.

Despite the numerical deficit, the Kuwaiti side failed to capitalize on the advantage, while the Iraqi side put in a strong performance and wasted multiple chances to secure the three match points.

The draw marked the 10th between the two sides in 42 matches, with Iraq having won 18 matches compared to Kuwait’s 14.

In the same group, Oman suffered a 1-0 loss to South Korea and Jordan, while Palestine secured a 1-0 win over Jordan.

The draw saw Iraq increase its score to 4 points, finishing third in the group on goal difference, ahead of leaders Jordan and second-placed South Korea, both with the same points balance. Kuwait increased its score to two points in fourth place, with Oman in fifth place with one point and Oman in sixth place without a point.
