African Urban Forum: Nouakchott Region Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Dire Dawa
The Nouakchott region has signed a landmark memorandum of understanding with the Ethiopian city of Dire Dawa, marking a significant step towards fostering cooperation in key areas such as sports, culture, tourism, trade, infrastructure, sustainable development, and education.
Head of the region, Fatima bint Abdul Malik, signed the agreement, which also encompasses the exchange of experiences and expertise between the two cities.
At the African Union-organized conference, the head of the region delivered a presentation highlighting the climate and environmental challenges faced by Nouakchott, as well as the city’s efforts to combat the negative effects of climate change and enhance its resilience.
According to the head of the region, this forum presents a valuable opportunity for Nouakchott and similar African cities to discuss shared challenges, exchange experiences, and attract development partners to support local development plans.
The head of the region expressed gratitude to the African Union and the Ethiopian government for initiating this pioneering effort.
