Desperate Deceit: Father Fakes Child’s Death for 3000 FCFA Loan in Abomey-Calavi
Unbelievable Deception: A Father’s Desperate Lie to Get Money
In a shocking turn of events, a small businessman in Abomey-Calavi, Benin, resorted to an outrageous lie to extract money from his friend, a teacher at Akassato public primary school. According to reports, the man fabricated a story about his child’s illness and subsequent death to get 3,000 francs from his friend.
The deception began when the man claimed his child was seriously ill and needed urgent medical attention. He convinced his friend that the child’s condition was dire, and the teacher, out of sympathy, provided the necessary funds. However, the story took a dramatic turn when the man called his friend to inform him that the child had passed away.
The man’s tale continued to unfold as he claimed to have taken the child to a clinic in Zinvié, where an operation failed. He then allegedly took the child to a marabout, a traditional healer, in search of a miraculous cure. According to his story, the child died at the marabout’s place, and the healer demanded a sum of money before releasing the body. The teacher, still reeling from the news, managed to scrape together 3,000 FCFA to help his friend.
In a stunning twist, the man called his friend again, exclaiming “Al-ḥamdu li-l-lāh” (“Praise be to God” in French), to inform him that the “deceased” child had been “resurrected.” This unbelievable turn of events has left many in shock, highlighting the desperation and deceit that can occur in times of financial hardship.
