Desperate Dive: Navy Scours 4th Point in Shirur, Karnataka as Arjun Rescue Mission Enters Critical Phase
Search for Arjun to Continue in Karnataka’s Shirur
The search operation for Arjun and two others missing in a landslide in Karnataka’s Shirur will resume today. The search will be conducted at the CP4 point marked by the Navy in the river, where a dredger will be anchored to capture views from below using a camera.
Divers from the Dragger Company, equipped with underwater cameras, will dive to conduct tests. Expert diver Ishwar Malpe will lead the operation, which will focus on the area between the land and the mound in the middle of the river. This location has been identified as a potential site, as the army has received strong signals of metal.
Arjun’s family has requested that the search be concentrated at CP4, and his sister Anju will visit the search area today. Yesterday, Ishwar Malpe reported finding vehicle wreckage at two locations in the river. Although the cabin and front tire of a tanker were found, they did not belong to Arjun’s truck.
Confirmation has been received that the truck found yesterday does not belong to Arjun. According to MLA AKM Ashraf, it belonged to a tanker truck, which was also confirmed by the truck owner, Manaf. During the search, steering, clutch, and parts of two tires were found. Malpe had previously discovered pieces of acacia wood in the river, which the truck owner confirmed were brought by Arjun in the truck.
The metal part of the truck was found during a search operation conducted with a dredge on Friday. The contract with the Dragger Company stipulates a three-day search.
Background of the Search Operation
The search for Arjun was initially called off on August 17 due to difficulties in removing the soil. However, after a meeting between the family and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, it was decided to resume the search with the Karnataka government covering the costs of the dredge operation.
