Deutsche Telekom to Broadcast FIFA World Cup Events

Deutsche Telekom (DT) has acquired rights to broadcast multiple FIFA World Cup tournaments, including the 2026 men’s event and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The package also includes the U20 World Cups in 2025 and 2027.
The German telecommunications company will broadcast 272 games across these tournaments on its magentatv streaming service.Coverage will include highlights, interviews and related programming.This marks the first time DT will broadcast the FIFA Women’s World cup.
While the deal is exclusive, Deutsche Telekom is expected to sublicense some games to public broadcasters like ARD and ZDF, or commercial networks such as RTL. This woudl ensure free-to-air coverage of the German national team, as required by german law.

Arnim Butzen,head of TV at DT,acknowledged the challenges of broadcasting the expanded 2026 men’s World Cup,which will feature 48 teams and 104 matches across multiple time zones. “48 participating nations, 104 matches over six weeks – this is the biggest football tournament of all time,” butzen said.
