Suns Face Trail Blazers With Booker Out, Green Questionable
PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns will be without All-Star guard Devin Booker for tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center. Jalen Green is listed as questionable for the matchup, scheduled for 11 p.m. ET.
The Suns (30-20) did not hold a practice session on February 2, a travel day for the team. Booker has missed the last five games after suffering a right ankle sprain on January 23 against the Atlanta Hawks.
“Book is making tremendous progress,” Suns coach Jordan Ott said Sunday, February 1, before the team’s 117-93 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. “Obviously been on the court multiple times. Trending in a good spot.”
Ott indicated Booker recently underwent a re-evaluation of the sprained ankle. “He just continues to progress,” Ott said. “He is skipping steps basically on how fast he can do it.”
Green sustained a left hip contusion during Phoenix’s January 30 win over Cleveland, following a prior absence of three games due to right hamstring injury management. Ott attributed Green’s absence from Sunday’s game to the hip contusion, noting that his hamstring had been feeling good.
“The hamstring seemed to be good,” Ott said. “Everything was good until that fall.” Green scored 11 points in 16 minutes against the Cavaliers but did not play in the fourth quarter. Ott described Green’s condition as improving, stating, “It’s the soreness piece right now. Tough fall. He was stiff. (Saturday), he was stiff. (Sunday), he took a big jump forward and feels a lot better.”
Green has appeared in only five games this season with the Suns, after having played in every game during his previous two seasons with the Houston Rockets.
The Suns, currently seventh in the Western Conference, have five games remaining before the NBA All-Star break. Those games are against Golden State, Philadelphia, Dallas, and the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City.
The Trail Blazers (23-27) have lost their last five games and are currently tenth in the West. Several Trail Blazers players are on the injury report: Kris Murray (lumbar strain) and Matisse Thybulle (right Knee tendinopathy) are ruled out. Deni Avdija (low back strain) and Scoot Henderson (left hamstring tear) are listed as doubtful, while Jrue Holiday (personal reasons) is questionable.
