Devon Walker: Adam Sandler’s SNL Advice After Exit
Devon walker Shares Adam Sandler‘s Wise Advice About Staying Grounded on SNL
Recent Saturday Night Live cast member Devon Walker, who joined the show in 2022 and was promoted to repertory player for the 50th season before his departure, recently reflected on his experience. Despite previously describing SNL as “toxic as hell,” Walker acknowledged the unique bonds formed within the show, comparing it to “a fraternity.” He highlighted the shared understanding among cast members, past and present, exemplified by a conversation with Adam Sandler.
Sandler, a cast member from 1990 to 1995, understands the SNL experience intimately. Despite being “fired” in the ’90s, he’s remained connected to the SNL family, returning to host in 2019 and participating in the SNL50 anniversary special.
Walker shared the insightful advice Sandler gave him: “You need to make sure you’re performing in the off season, so you remember what it feels like to perform, like, in the way that got you to the show.” Walker explained that the show’s surroundings can alter a performer’s style, requiring them to adapt to “the SNL way.” Sandler’s advice was a reminder to maintain connection with the core performance style that initially earned them a place on the show.
