Phoenix, AZ – The Arizona Diamondbacks have added depth and versatility to their infield, acquiring utilityman Grae Kessinger from the Houston Astros in exchange for minor league pitcher matthew Linskey.

Kessinger, a 25-year-old right-handed hitter, brings valuable experience and a strong track record at the Triple-A level to the D-backs. While his Major League batting average sits at .131 over 49 games, Kessinger has impressed in the minors, posting a solid .271/.363/.407 slash line over 524 plate appearances.”Grae’s plate discipline and defensive versatility make him a valuable asset,” said a D-backs spokesperson. “We believe he has the potential to contribute substantially at the Major League level.”

Known for his strong plate discipline, evidenced by a 12.4% walk rate in Triple-A, Kessinger also brings defensive adaptability, having logged significant innings at shortstop, second base, and third base.

The trade comes after the Astros designated Kessinger for assignment to make room for veteran first baseman Christian Walker. The D-backs, with three open spots on their 40-man roster, were able to acquire Kessinger without needing to make any further roster moves.

In return, the Astros receive Linskey, a 22-year-old right-handed reliever who impressed in the lower minors last season. Linskey boasts a 2.78 ERA and a remarkable 38.3% strikeout rate over 32 1/3 innings.

D-backs Grab Utility Man Kessinger: A Closer Look

Jake: Hey Maria, did you hear about the D-backs’ latest move? They traded for grae Kessinger from the Astros.

Maria: No way! Really? Who’s Kessinger? Is he a big name?

Jake: Not a superstar, but he’s a versatile infielder. You know how the D-backs love those utility guys who can play multiple positions. He can handle shortstop, second base, and even third base.

Maria: Oh, so kind of like a Swiss Army knife for the infield? That’s actually pretty smart. But what are his numbers like?

Jake: His Major League numbers aren’t stunning yet, only a .131 average in 49 games. But remember,he’s only 25. He’s actually been crushing it in Triple-A with a .271 average and good on-base percentage.Maria: Okay, I see. So, it sounds like they’re hoping he can find his groove at the big-league level?

Jake: Exactly! And the front office seems really high on him. They mentioned his great plate discipline and defensive versatility. Apparently, he’s got a knack for drawing walks and making solid plays in the field.

Maria: That’s good to hear. What did we give up to get him?

Jake: A young pitcher named Matthew Linskey. He had a decent year in the minors, but he wasn’t exactly a blue-chip prospect.

Maria: Sounds like a good deal for the D-backs then. It’s nice to see them making moves to bolster the roster.

Jake: Totally. Torey Lovullo loves having options off the bench, and Kessinger adds some depth and flexibility that can be really valuable down the stretch.
