DICT Deploys More Equipment for Typhoon Relief
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is providing emergency communication support in Catanduanes. This action follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s request for assistance after Super Typhoon Pepito struck the region.
On November 19, during his visit, President Marcos urged government agencies to deliver relief goods, shelter, and restore communication and power services disrupted by the typhoon.
DICT Secretary Ivan Uy responded quickly. He instructed CICC Executive Director Alexander K. Ramos to send out emergency communication equipment. This included a self-powered and all-weather communication system to help affected residents access the internet.
On November 22, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) deployed two emergency commsboxes to Virac, Catanduanes. They worked together with the Philippine Airforce and the Office of Civil Defense for this mission.
Each commsbox can support up to 100 users, providing free Wi-Fi access throughout the day.
The typhoon affected around 11 out of 16 municipalities in Catanduanes. Power restoration in the province is expected to take about two weeks.
Issued by the Office of Executive Director Alexander K. Ramos
