MEXICO CITY – Diego Forlan, one of Uruguay’s top players, is preparing to open a new chapter in his athletic career. He is scheduled to make his official debut as a professional tennis player at the Uruguay Open, part of the ATP Challenger Tour.
Forlan, a former Atlético Madrid player who was named best player at the 2010 World Cup, will compete in the doubles category alongside Fede Coria. Forlan’s participation in the competition was made possible through a “wild card” invitation to the competition.
He said during his presentation: “I’m really enjoying this. I love having the opportunity to play tennis at this great club where I grew up and spent my childhood. It’s a real privilege. But now I’m trying to play tennis.”
Diego Forlan will make his debut on Tuesday night, facing Bolivia’s Boris Arias and Federico Zeballos in the last 16.
