Bandai Namco Entertainment has released the official technical specifications for Digimon Story: Time Stranger on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, confirming the game’s performance targets and hardware requirements ahead of its scheduled launch later this year. The details, published through the company’s Japanese website and shared with regional press outlets, clarify how the title will scale across both generations of Nintendo’s hybrid console, particularly in terms of resolution, frame rate, and storage footprint.

According to the specifications sheet, Digimon Story: Time Stranger will run at a native 1080p resolution in docked mode on the original Nintendo Switch, maintaining a target frame rate of 30 frames per second. In handheld mode, the game dynamically scales resolution down to 720p to sustain performance, a common approach for graphically intensive titles on the aging hardware. On the newer Nintendo Switch 2, the game supports up to 1440p in docked mode and 1080p in handheld, with a stabilized 60 frames per second across both configurations, leveraging the console’s upgraded CPU and GPU.

The title requires approximately 12.4 GB of available storage space on either system, with no significant difference between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. Bandai Namco notes that the game utilizes the Switch 2’s faster storage bandwidth to reduce load times, particularly when transitioning between field exploration and turn-based combat sequences. Save data and DLC will be cross-compatible between the two systems, allowing players to transfer progress seamlessly if they upgrade hardware.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a role-playing game that continues the narrative of the Digimon Story series, blending monster collection, turn-based strategy, and time-travel-themed storytelling. Players assume the role of a tamer who partners with various Digimon to investigate anomalies across distorted timelines. The game features over 200 collectible Digimon, each with unique evolution paths and skill trees, and includes a new “Chrono Sync” mechanic that allows players to alter battle outcomes by revisiting previous turns under specific conditions.

The game’s visual design combines 3D character models with 2D background art, a stylistic choice consistent with recent entries in the franchise. Bandai Namco confirms that the title uses a custom engine optimized for Nintendo’s hardware architecture, rather than relying on third-party middleware. This allows for greater control over memory allocation and frame pacing, which the company says was essential to achieving stable performance on the original Switch while still taking advantage of the Switch 2’s capabilities.

No differences in content, story progression, or multiplayer features have been announced between the Switch and Switch 2 versions. Local wireless and online multiplayer modes, which allow up to four players to cooperate in special battle scenarios, function identically on both systems. The game does not require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for core gameplay, though online features such as ranked matches and leaderboards do necessitate the service.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger is scheduled for release on July 25, 2026, in North America, Europe, and Japan. A demo version will be made available on the Nintendo eShop starting June 20, 2026, offering players access to the first two chapters and a limited roster of Digimon. Pre-orders are currently open through major retailers and the Nintendo eShop, with bonus in-game items offered for early purchases.
